A step-by-step barrel packing checklist

1. Make a contents list. Record what you plan to send, quantities and values for the shipment paperwork. Keep receipts where relevant.
2. Check uncertain items. Ask about food, liquids, batteries, medicines, aerosols and any hazardous or restricted goods. Do not hide or misdeclare contents.
3. Protect items individually. Wrap breakable items with suitable cushioning. Keep clean clothes and textiles in protective bags.
4. Pack stable layers. Place sturdy, heavier items lower down, without crushing lighter goods. Spread weight evenly and avoid unstable stacks.
5. Separate items that could leak. Only pack accepted liquids. Secure closures and use suitable secondary containment; ask for packing advice if unsure.
