A practical way to send your personal belongings

Gilbert Link Shipping arranges box and carton shipments from the UK to Caribbean destinations. Whether you are sending belongings to relatives or organising a larger move, give us the destination, packed dimensions, weight and contents of each box so we can advise on the shipment.

How to measure a box for a shipping estimate

  1. Pack and close the carton before measuring.
  2. Measure the outside length, width and height, including any protruding parts.
  3. Use the same unit for every measurement. Our calculator provides the available input units.
  4. Enter each box separately when their sizes differ. Tell us the total quantity and weight.

Volume in cubic metres = length in metres × width in metres × height in metres.

Worked example

A box measuring 1.00 m × 0.45 m × 0.80 m has a volume of 0.360 m³.

At a volume rate of 435 per m³: 0.360 × 435 = £156.60.

This uses the volume illustrative rate for destinations in the £130 barrel-price group. It is not a universal destination rate. Collection and other applicable charges must be confirmed separately.

What affects the final box price?

Destination, dimensions, quantity, weight, contents, collection location and handling requirements can affect the quotation. An instant result is an estimate, not confirmation that every item can be accepted. Ask for a tailored quote for unusual shapes, heavy goods, fragile items or commercial cargo.

Preparing cartons for sea shipping

  • Use strong cartons suited to the contents. Replace damp or damaged boxes.
  • Cushion fragile items individually and fill empty spaces to reduce movement.
  • Seal seams with appropriate packing tape and keep the box shape stable.
  • Label each carton clearly and number multi-box shipments, for example 1 of 3.
  • Keep an inventory and provide recipient contact details with your booking.

Collection across the UK

We collect nationwide. For collection within the M25, check the fixed collection fee shown in your quotation. Outside the M25, request a postcode-based collection price. Mention stairs, restricted access or items that need special lifting arrangements.

Can I ship boxes and barrels together?

Tell us the full shipment details so we can confirm the appropriate booking and charges for both.

Does a quote include customs charges?

Check your written quote for inclusions and exclusions. Do not assume it includes destination duties, handling, storage, insurance or delivery beyond the port.

When should I arrange collection?

Contact us ahead of the closing date on the sailing schedule. A closing date is not the departure date, and collection availability must be confirmed.
